Thich Nhhat Hanh says, “Walk as if your feet are kissing the earth.”
Why not use it as a good excuse to practice WALKING MEDITATION?
Walking meditation can be practiced inside or out, alone or with others. In a nutshell, you walk in a relaxed manner. You turn your awareness to the way your feet touch the ground. You walk reverently, treating the ground as holy. You turn your awareness to your breathing. With each in-breath, take 3 or 4 steps, and with each out-breath, take 4 or 5 steps. Find the pace that’s comfortable to you. Walk quietly. Hold a half smile on your face. If you like, you can repeat this poem of Thich Nhat Hanh’s:
Breathing in, I calm my body.
Breathing out, I smile.
Dwelling in the present moment,
I know this is a wonderful moment.
HAPPY NATIONAL WALKING DAY!
